Six Dog-Friendly Breweries You Need to Try Near Port Coquitlam.
There’s nothing better than enjoying an afternoon on the patio with great friends, fabulous food, and some furry companions. Dog-friendly breweries can eliminate having to choose a night out or staying in with your pup; spend the evening with your dog on the town. Even better, you’re going to love the expansive drink options – with something for everyone’s tastes. Whether you enjoy ales, ciders, or sours, take a peek at six of our favourite pup-friendly patios you need to try during the fantastic autumn weather in the Lower Mainland.
Northpaw Brew Co in Port Coquitlam
Located in the heart of Fremont village, Northpaw Brew Co is on the north side of Port Coquitlam. This brewery is proud of virtually every beer that comes out of their tap, making it the perfect spot for a refreshing drink after a long day. Although I love all the cream ales at this location, the Cuban Sour Orange (a limited release this summer) was my all time fave! Even though they don’t have a kitchen, there’s always something to eat with local connections to bakers, butchers, and cheese makers. If pizza is your thing, Emilio Finatti Pizzeria is across the street and happily delivers.
Tinhouse Brewing
When you want a brewery with as much personality as your beer has flavour, consider stopping in at the Tinhouse Brewing. Located off the Traboulay Poco Trail, this lounge and patio is the perfect combination of delicious drinks and friendly staff. While they may not have a kitchen, they encourage outside food for anyone wanting a snack (ordered in or otherwise). They’ve also connected with local food trucks to bring you delicious treats on weekends. They’re known for accommodating friendly pups, with water available and the occasional treat too! Try the Golden Hour Pear Sour; it’s my personal favourite on a summer afternoon.
Mariner Brewing in Coquitlam
Whether you need a bite to eat or you’d like to sample a refreshing ale, this dog-friendly patio is the perfect combination of an exciting atmosphere and fantastic house brews. While dogs aren’t allowed inside the brewery or front patio, the back “beer garden” patio allows pups, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a treat together. Their kitchen is full of delicious options, from perogy dogs to Jamaican patties. Try your skill with identifying the flavour palate of ‘That Mystery Beer’ or sip the Venture Blueberry Sour. There’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Smugglers Trail in Langley
If you’re in Langley, consider stopping in at Smugglers Trail, a full brewery with a wide variety of beer, carefully crafted to be anything but boring. This location is dog-friendly on the patio, complete with a full in-house kitchen. Their menu consists of delicious burgers, fantastic poutines, and even specialty pizza. After stopping in and trying the Scrumper’s Triple Berry Sour, it was the perfect combination of sweet fruit with strawberry, boysenberry, and blueberry beer. It’s a must-try this summer.
Taylight Brewing Inc. in Port Coquitlam
This tucked-away gem is one that you don’t want to miss; it’s just off the Mary-Hill Bypass in Port Coquitlam. With flagship brews, ales, and IPAs, Taylight Brewing brings the brightest creations to the tri-cities and beyond. Sit back on the dog-friendly patio and enjoy a craft beer with your friends. This location encourages outside food on the patio and inside the tasting room, ideal for trying your favourite snacks with delectable drinks.
Foamers’ Folly
There’s nothing basic about this location; with so many varieties to choose from, it’s almost impossible to pick just one (seriously, I often grab a flight)! Foamer’s Folly has 20 different taps to choose from, with new and exciting beers circulating regularly. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, they’re not serving food from the kitchen at this time. They encourage outside food inside the tasting room and on their patio. Enjoy sampling a few drinks from the tap outside with your dog, with well-behaved pups allowed in the patio area.
Boardwalk Brewing (An Honourable mention)
Although technically not yet dog-friendly, Boardwalk Brewing intends to have an outdoor space for dog-friendly visits soon. Located at the confluence of Pitt and the Fraser Rivers, this brewery is known for both excellent beer and food on site. From corn tortilla tacos to bowls to satisfy any appetite, their fresh approach to food shows with every order. With sours, ales, hops, and wine available, it’s the perfect space to unwind after a busy day on the boardwalk.
If cider is more your thing, be sure to check out the Fraser Valley Cider Company!
