Pets are a big part of the human experience.
Hello! I'm Deborah, the photographer behind Cedar & Bark.
I feel so strongly that I'm on the right path. Pets have seen my clients through their most joyful and painful moments - moving into first homes, tagging along on adventures, comforting through grief, healing through sickness.
As a pet photographer, I get to help immortalize the memories of your furbabies in art pieces that you'll carry with you for the rest of your life.
I'd be honoured to be the photographer to tell your pet's story!
I’m a dog mom myself.
The sweet dog you see in the photo above is Kona, and she’s the reason I started Cedar & Bark. After a career in dental administration, I decided to pursue my long-term dream of becoming an entrepreneur when Kona developed glaucoma at age eight. Suddenly, Kona needed a lot of help navigating day-to-day life, and I couldn’t stomach the idea of leaving her for hours every day.
So, I decided to create a business where I could work from home. Pet photography combined my love for photography and my obvious love for animals — it felt like a perfect match. I got my accreditation from the Professional Photographers of Canada and found mentors to help hone my skills and build my business. And though Kona has since passed away, today I couldn’t be happier running Cedar & Bark full-time.
Currently, I have two yellow labs, Makena and Pearl. Makena was the easiest puppy I’ve ever raised, making me completely go back on my vow to never adopt a puppy again! Pearl is a retired breeding dog, coming to us after delivering five litters of pups! Both are incredibly sweet and contented labs.
I have the best job in the world.
In addition to photographing pets and wildlife, you'll find me walking my dogs on the local trails or sampling some yummy craft beer. Maui is my happy place, and I love popcorn and coffee — but not together. I live in Port Coquitlam with my two adorable yellow labs.
If you see us out and about, make sure to say "Hi!”
